Wolves control Rockets

CARNEY — The Carney-Nadeau Wolves enjoyed a hot serving night here Thursday in a 3-0 (25-7, 25-7, 25-3) volleyball victory over the Rapid River Rockets.

“We were just serving well,” said Wolves’ coach Steve Kedsch. “It was just one of those nights. It really set up our offense, and it was very efficient for us. Overall, it was probably one of our best matches between covering the floor, setting up blocks and everything else.”

The victory enabled the Wolves to improve to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in the Skyline Central Conference.

C-N’s Taylor Kedsch collected 15 kills and eight digs. Haley Ernest added eight service aces, 22 assists and five digs. Liana Blahnik recorded five kills, three blocks and five digs and Mackenzie Walcher had 10 digs.

“I give Rapid River credit,” said coach Kedsch. “I know they were down most of the night, but those girls kept hustling all night. It was just one of those nights where everything went our way.”

The Wolves, who also won the jayvee match in three sets, host Menominee, Kingsford and North Dickinson in a quadrangular meet Sept. 26. The Rockets (2-3 overall, 1-3 league) host Munising Tuesday.

Carney-Nadeau — Ernest (eight aces, 22 assists, five digs); Baumler (two aces, four digs); Sivula (two aces, three digs); Kedsch (15 kills, eight digs); Blahnik (five kills, three blocks, five digs); Kirschner (three kills); Walcher (10 digs).
