Escanaba baseball closes final chapter on the 2026 season
ESCANABA — The Final chapter of a very good season for the Eskymos came to an end Saturday morning as they fell 1-0 to Grand Rapids Kenowa Hills in the Michigan High School Athletic Association, (MHSAA) Division 2 Regional Final.
The two teams combined for six hits and the Eskymos left nine runners on base during the course of the contest.
“We were just a few plays away from moving on to state,” Eskymos coach Scott Hanson said. “It is a shame someone had to lose this game because it was a very good game.”
Both pitchers played phenomenal as the Knights started Andrew Lake. Lake allowed zero runs on three hits with six strikeouts and four walks.
Lennox Peacock got the start for the Eskymos the senior allowed one run on two hits with eight strikeouts and one walk.
The Knights scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning as Jxxxx Stoddard hit a ground ball that went of the glove of Escanaba senior Ashton Rymkos to get the RBI.
“We were right there,” Hanson said. “We just needed to execute with runners in scoring position and just couldn’t get it done but it was a great season overall and proud of how our guys played this season.”
