Esky football

ESCANABA — Escanaba High School varsity, JV, and freshman football teams will begin the 2021 football season with summer practice on August 9th at 3 p.m. for all three levels.

All practices will be held at the Escanaba Athletic Field. Practices for the first week will be scheduled from 3 to 6:30 p.m.

Athletes should bring workout clothes, football cleats and a light snack as there will be a short break in between practices. All other football equipment will be provided by the school.

All athletes must have a sports physical on file to start practice on August 9th. This physical must be dated after April 15, 2021 to be valid for the fall football season.

Lastly, there will be a parent meeting for all 9-12 grade football players on Aug. 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the locker room area at the Escanaba Athletic Field. At least one parent should plan on attending this meeting.

YMCA’s 20th

Annual Golf Classic

ESCANABA — The 2021 Golf Classic sponsored by State Wide Real Estate will be held on Thursday, August 5th at the Escanaba Country Club.

“Partnering with the YMCA is giving to the community. The YMCA embraces people of all ages, incomes and abilities and supports kids & families in their efforts to be successful”, said State Wide co-owner, Dave Harris. “At the Y, everyone belongs and it’s our pleasure to make such positive impacts in our community,” stated co-owner Judy Owens.

The golf outing is a 4 person scramble and includes lunch, dinner, games, door prizes and much more.

The proceeds from the outing provide financial assistance for kids and families wanting to take part in programs like childcare, before / after school, swim lessons and youth sports.

open registration

ESCANABA — Registration is now open for the 74th Annual Michigan-Wisconsin Tennis Open which will take place on area tennis courts August 7 and 8.

Entry forms for singles (20 dollars) or doubles (24 dollars per team) can be found online at www.escanaba.org or at the Escanaba Civic Center.

Entry forms must be mailed to the Escanaba Recreation Department, P.O. box 948, Escanaba MI, 49829. Checks must be made payable to Esky Tennis.
