Wagner tops SCC list

ESCANABA — Carney-Nadeau junior Tessa Wagner took pride of place as the Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year in the recently released Skyline Central Girls Basketball All-Conference list voted on by conference coaches.
Wagner has helped lead the Wolves to an undefeated season along with helping Wolves coach Ken Linder earn Coach of the Year.
On the first team, senior Allison Richer and junior Cara Zawacki of Bark River-Harris made the cut, while Carney senior Taylor Kedsch also earned herself a spot.
North Central senior Andie Arsenault and Superior Central junior Riley Johnson also made the cut.
Joining them on the first team are Ashton Hord of North Dickinson and Jenna Matson of Munising.
Rapid River senior Natalie Belanger was elected to the second team along with Superior Central junior Emma Rutter.
Joining the two on second team are Paige Cappaert and Morgan Anderson of Stephenson, Mackenzie Clifford of Norway, Micah Lindholm of North Dickinson and Lea LaChapelle of Forest Park.
Honor mentions include Haley Ernest of Carney, Morgan Cappaert of Bark River, Gracie Kleikamp of North Central, Vanessa Lindholm of North Dickinson, and Andi Carlson and Kassandra Gyselinck of Norway.
Making the All-Defensive team were Ernest, Arsenault, Belanger and Aspen Fredrick of Bark River. Joining them are Hord, Amya Johnson of Forest Park, Matson and Donna VanHolla of Norway.
Valerie Johnson of Munising was awarded the Individual Sportsmanship Award, and Forest Park earned the Team Sportsmanship Award. The Free Throw Award went to Morgan Anderson of Stephenson.
