Escanaba City-Wide Rummage Sale returns this weekend

The annual Escanaba City-Wide Rummage Sale, hosted by the Daily Press and U.P. Action, returns this weekend.

ESCANABA — Thrifters, treasure hunters and bargain seekers alike will be out in force this weekend for the Escanaba City-Wide Rummage Sale, hosted by the Daily Press and U.P. Action.

The sale will take place Friday, June 11, through Sunday, June 14. Individual sale hours will vary and can be found in the address listing and map of participating residences published in the Daily Press and U.P. Action.

The citywide sale, previously known as “Trash to Cash/Trash to Treasure,” was originally hosted by the City of Escanaba.

The long-standing annual tradition began in 2006 when former Escanaba City Manager James O’Toole created the event as a reduce-reuse-recycle initiative aimed at keeping usable household items out of the Delta County Landfill.

In 2020, the city turned the event over to the Daily Press and U.P. Action. Due to COVID-19, the event was forced to be scaled back to a single day. Fortunately, the sale is back to being a three-day event.

“The Daily Press was honored to take this event on from the City several years ago,” said Sarah Greenlund, publisher of the Daily Press. “All the rummage sales are listed in one place – no searching on hundreds of different social media pages. Just pick up a copy of the Daily Press and see them all on the map!”

This weekend, 27 households will welcome shoppers during the event. Visitors can expect to find a wide variety of discounted items, including household goods, clothing, furniture, collectibles, toys, tools and more.

The annual Gladstone City-Wide Rummage Sale, also hosted by the Daily Press and U.P. Action, is scheduled for Friday, July 10, through Sunday, July 12.

For a small fee, residents who place a classified ad with the Daily Press will have their address included on the citywide rummage sale map, receive two rummage sale signs and have their ad published in both the Daily Press and U.P. Action.

While the deadline to place an ad for the Escanaba Citywide Rummage Sale has passed, those interested in participating in Gladstone’s sale may call 906-786-2021, ext. 161, by July 3 to place an ad.
