Two Escanaba residents get prison on drug charges

ESCANABA — Two Escanaba residents recently received a prison sentences on drug charges.

Ashlee Nichole Domire, 25, of Escanaba was sentenced on September 27, to 5 years to 20 years following the entry of a plea to Delivery/Manufacture Methamphetamine and Possession of Analogues (Buprenorphine).

On October 6, 2020, detectives with the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement South Team (UPSET) conducted an investigation in Escanaba. As a result of that investigation, purchase of half a gram of methamphetamine was purchased from Domire.

On December 21, 2020, officers from Escanaba Department of Public Safety had contact with Domire while on routine patrol. Domire was lodged at that time on the methamphetamine purchase from October 2020. Domire was searched and a buprenorphine sublingual strip, more commonly known as Suboxone, was found in a cigarette pack in Domire’s jacket pocket.

Kyle Gregory Nelson, 35, of Gladstone, was sentenced on September 27, 2021, to 32 months to 10 years in prison following the entry of a guilty plea as charged to Possession of Methamphetamine. On March 24, officers from Escanaba Public Safety conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Stephenson Avenue and Ludington Street. Nelson was identified as the passenger in the vehicle, and because he was on parole, was subject to search by the officers. A baggie with a white powdery substance was located in Nelson’s left pocket. A lab test confirmed the substance to be methamphetamine. Escanaba Public Safety was assisted in their investigation by Michigan State Police.
