Missing kayaker found
NAHMA — A kayaker who was separated from her group and was forced to spend the night along the Sturgeon River was found Monday morning.
According to the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City and the Delta County Sheriffs Office, Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the Nahma area at around 11:50 p.m. Sunday night to search for the lost kayaker. The woman had gotten lost and called the authorities, but shortly afterward her cell phone battery died.
At 5:30 a.m. Monday, a Coast Guard helicopter was launched to assist in the search. The woman was located by helicopter at approximately 7 a.m. She was transported out of the woods by Delta County Search and Rescue members, checked at the scene by Tristar EMS and released.
Also assisting was Delta County Central Dispatch and the Nahma Fire Department.
