ESCANABA -- As flooding from snow melt and rainfall overburdens systems, the City of Escanaba has asked residents to discontinue or divert sump pumps that flow to the sanitary sewer. "If you are using a sump pump, it is possible you are contributing to the flooding of your neighbor's house and/or your own home," read a press release issued Monday morning by the Escanaba Water/Wastewater Department.
