Miners knock Eskymos out of playoffs

KINGSFORD — The Neagaunee Miners were too much for the Escanaba Eskymos here Friday in the MHSAA Division Two district tournament.

Negaunee got on the board in the first inning as Olivia Richards doubled to score a run.Alyse Robar got the start for the Miners in the circle and went the distance allowing zero runs on three hits with 10 strikeouts and one walk.

Emma Parlato got the start for Escanaba and recorded six outs. Landry Bray finished the game allowing one run on one hit with 11 strikeouts and two walks.

“We went back to some of our bad habits from early in the year,” Eskymos Coach Andy Fields said. “Our barrels were dragging through the zone against a pitcher like Robar.”

The Eskymos and Miners each had three hits in the contest with Harlee Coolman Landry Bray and Breleigh Reinhart had the hits for the Eskymos.

“At the end of the day it’s a very successful season for us,” Fields said. “We learned a lot about ourselves and got better as the season went on.”
