Escanaba girls take runner up spot at U.P. Golf Finals

HARRIS — It was a big day for the Negaunee Miners girls golf team as they finished the day with a team score of 383 to claim the U.P. Championship in Division 1. Escanaba came in second with a score of 407. Kingsford was third with 426, Calumet scored 430 points for fifth and Marquette rounded out the top five with 440.

Escanaba senior Kamrie Scott finished on top of the leaderboard for the third straight season with a score of 83 on the day. Scott got in some trouble on the front nine but turned it around on the back nine as she parred five straight holes and had a birdie at 16 before ending the day with a pair of bogeys.

“I started off rough,” Scott said. My putting came together on the back nine and really improved the day.”

Sault Ste Marie freshman Renee Guam came in second place with a score of 87 with a birdie on the 16th hole.

Negaunee senior Adyson Crookham came in third with a score of 89. Crookman had a rough start with three double bogeys on the front nine and also had a pair of double bogeys on the back nine.

Menominee senior Lexi Marineau came in tied for fourth with Kennidy Glasheen of Negaunee. Marineau had a birdie on the 16th hole and parred the last two holes. Glasheen parred the first hole before a pair of double bogeys on the fifth and sixth holes and also birdied on the 18th hole.

Kingsford sophomore Charlotte Todd and Calumet freshman Cali Hodges tied for sixth with 95 points Todd struggled on the back nine but was able to birdie the 16th and parred the last two holes of the day. Hodges did not have any birdies on the day but parred on the last two holes on the front nine and also parred on the first hole of the back nine.

Negaunee senior Sonya Erva and Westwood junior Alison Erdman tied for eighth on the day. Erva parred two straight holes on the back nine and Erdman had bogeys on every hole on the front nine except on the fourth hole where she had a double bogey.

Lily VanDamme came in 10th place with a score of 99 including a birdie on the 16th hole.

“We played well today as a team Brian Robinette said. Kamrie makes being a coach look pretty easy but she puts in all the hard work to keep her game strong.”

Manistique senior Kyra Carlson shot a 104 and parred two of the last three holes of the day.

“I was working on being efficient with my hits,” Carlson said. “Just tried to keep them in sight and on the fairways.”
