Esky golf takes 2nd, 3rd

GLADSTONE — The Escanaba boys golf team earned a silver finish Friday in Gladstone. The Eskymos — who finished with 168 — followed Marquette by just one stroke (167).

Following were Menominee (170), Kingsford (177) and Gladstone (222).

Esky’s Sawyer Lamarch tied for second place with Joseph Luke of Marquette with a 39. The Eskymos Rogan Gravelle tied for sixth shooting a 43, Curtis Kuchenberg tied at eighth with 43, and Bryson Lancour and Shane Wallin were one stroke behind (44) and tied for 10th.

Menominee’s Brady Badker topped the contest with a 38.

Gladstone’s Cam Ballard was at the top of the school’s results with a 47. He was followed by Thomas Tackman 53, Gavin Mhyren 57, Pete Lippens 65 and Peter Noblet 78.

Escanaba was a place behind on the girls’ side, falling in the middle with 218 total. Menominee led with 191, and the Redettes took second with 216. Kingsford and Gladstone followed.

The Eskymos’ Cierra Scott tied for fifth with a 49, Sophie Derkos earned the seven spot with 51, Abby Hill tied for eighth with 57 and Annika Wangrud finished the day with a 61 to tie at 14th.

Menominee’s Josie Hofer finished first with a 42.

On Gladstone’s side, Emma DeLaire shot a 58 to tie for 12th.

Rounding out the Eskymos was Peyton Wellman with a 62, and for the Braves, it was Peyton Nault with 77.

The Escanaba girls golf team earned a third-place finish in the GNC meet held in Escanaba Thursday.

Esky girls finished with 235 strokes, finishing behind Menominee (193) and Marquette (227). They were followed by Kingsford (269).

Hill landed a fifth-place finish with 55, and Hofer earned top spot with 43.

Scott tied for sixth with 57, and Wangrud placed 10th with a 59.

Wellman and Derkos rounded out the Esky girls’ places, with Wellman tying for 13th at 64 and Derkos tying for 15th at 65.

On the boys’ side, Escanaba and Gladstone ended the day at fourth (175) and fifth (225), respectively. Marquette earned gold with a 165.

Lancour, Gravelle and Lamarch tied for Eskymos top scorer at seventh with a 43.

Ballard was behind by one stroke and tied at 13th.

Badker tied for first place with Marquette’s Joseph Luke at 38.

Rounding out the Escanaba boys were Wallin 46 and Owen Lancour 47, and Mhyren 51, Tackman 64, Graison Pare 66 and Lippens 67 made up the rest of the Braves.

Escanaba travels to Menominee Monday. Gladstone returns to action Tuesday at Wawonowin Country Club in Champion.
