Cougars advance over Mustangs
MUNISING — The Superior Central volleyball team proved the adage about the difficulty of beating a team three times true here Monday as the Cougars advanced to the Division 4 district finals after a 3-2 (23-25, 28-26, 25-19, 13-25, 15-7) win over Munising.
“It’s hard to beat the same three times in one season,” Cougars coach Kris Bray said. “It was a tough one.”
It was an up and down match for the Cougars, with a fourth set that got away from them
“In the fourth set we didn’t play our game, we just got tense,” said Bray. “I kept telling the girls to set the tone.”
Bray kept her team pumped up, however, telling them to believe and just play their game.
“Once we did that, the girls started to relax,” she said.
Riley Johnson led the team in kills with 13 while also collecting five aces. At six aces, Emma Rutter led that category. Riley Moore, whose serving Bray complimented, had eight kills, three aces and two digs. Charlotte Charlebois led the Cougars in assists with 33.
The Superior Central Cougars move on to face the Mid Peninsula Wolverines Thursday in the Division 4 district finals.
