Indians fall behind early, lose to Golds

IRON MOUNTAIN — A slow start came back to haunt the Gladstone Indians in a 6-2 baseball loss at Iron Mountain in the Upper Peninsula Under-19 League Thursday night.

The Golds (9-6) scored three runs in each of the first two innings to take a 6-0 lead off Indians pitcher Mason LaChance.

The Indians (5-3) loaded the bases in the top of the first with just one out but Golds pitcher Sawyer Pugh was able to work out of a jam by getting the next two outs.

Gladstone did manage to get two runs back in the third on three straight singles by Caden Alworden, Dan Martin and Dayton Bernson, but that would be all the scoring for either team the rest of the way.

Hunter McCarthy and Jesse Julian each led Iron Mountain with two hits. Bernson was the only Indian to get two hits.

Iron Mountain hosts Copper Country Tuesday, while the Indians face Ashwaubenon, Wis. and Menominee Saturday at Menominee.
