ESCANABA — While most of the local races in Delta County were decided Tuesday night, a few races were not completely determined until early Wednesday morning. The results of those races are as follows.
Escanaba School Board
Voters have spoken and selected James Segorski and Todd Milkiewicz to fill the two open seats for six-year terms on the Escanaba School Board. Segorski took home 3,721 votes (26%) while Milkiewicz received 3,691 votes (25%). The remaining votes were cast for Sage Dubord (3240 or 22%), J.J. Johnson-Reeves (2,153 or 15%), and David Deno (1,624 or 11%). An additional 75 votes (less than 1% of all votes cast) were submitted for write-in candidates.
James L. Hermans will also serve on the board in a partial term. Hermans ran unopposed for the seat, which expires Dec. 31, 2024.
Rapid River Public Schools
Voters in the Rapid River Public Schools District selected Brooke E. Lindbert, Travis Gustafson, and April Proehl to fill the three open seats on the school board Tuesday. Lindbert received 813 votes (23%), Gustafson received 691 votes (20%), and Proehl received 636 votes (18%). The race was rounded out With 463 votes for James G. Olson (13%), 374 votes for George J. Kanyuh (11%), 279 votes for Matthew A. A. Holmio (8%), and 36 votes for write-in candidates (1%).
Voters also cast 105 votes in a separate race for the partial board term ending Dec. 31, 2022. As no candidates had filed for their name to appear on the ballot of the position, the unofficial election results available Wednesday morning only specified the votes were cast for a write-in candidate and not who the votes were cast for specifically.
Delta County Road Commission
One Democrat and one Republican secured seats on the Delta County Road Commission Tuesday. Dustin Stempki, a Republican, took home 12,598 votes (44%), and and Democrat Randolph L. Bjork received 8,158 votes (29%). Mark Asselin, who also ran as a Democrat, received 7,491 votes (26%), and an additional 153 votes (less than 1%) were cast for write-in candidates.
