ESCANABA — Deep cleaning continues at the Delta-Schoolcraft Intermediate School District’s Learning Center after two staff members there tested positive for COVID-19. The school is expected to reopen Monday.
“Delta-Schoolcraft Intermediate School District (DSISD) was notified today that two of our staff members at the Learning Center, our center-based program for students with cognitive impairments, tested positive for COVID-19. Public Health of Delta and Menominee Counties (PHDM) is assisting us with contact tracing which will result in multiple students and staff members being quarantined,” a statement from school officials read.
“There is nothing more important to Delta-Schoolcraft ISD than the safety and health of our students, our staff and their families. We are working directly with PHDM and both agencies agree it would be prudent to close the Learning Center on Thursday, Oct. 1 and Friday, Oct. 2. This will provide us with time to deep clean the facility and complete contact tracing. We plan to reopen the Learning Center on Monday, Oct. 5.”
This closure does not affect DSISD’s Career and Technical Education programs or the general and special education services provided to local school districts. All DSISD programs and services remain open except for the Learning Center.
The Escanaba Senior/Junior High School building was closed last week because of COVID-19 cases. Classes are continuing online and the building is expected to reopen on Monday, Oct. 12
