EDITOR: Why do some stories make it to national prominence while some never see the light of day? I am referencing the Idaho murders of the four college students. I have a guess, and I wish I was wrong, but after the initial story, we all saw a picture of the four. If the two young good-looking girls’ pictures had not be prominently displayed, would the national media had picked it up? Unfortunately, if it had been four less attractive students, we might not have heard about it. This has troubled me for years. I know that some of it is politically motivated. Tom Grant Escanaba

Escanaba marijuana shops

EDITOR: I’m writing in regard to not one but four marijuana shops possibly coming into Escanaba. Because of zoning laws, the city council has to approve them. Contact your councilman or attend the meetings and let them know of your displeasure. If we must have a marijuana shop here, place them away from the mall. Those who want to shop there will find it. Gas price increases

EDITOR: We go into Christmas week and gas is $2.64 a gallon. Not too bad. The statewide average goes down 7 cents. Then we see Krist Oil go up to $3.29. A 65 cents increase in one fell swoop. What exactly is a “fell swoop”? Anyway. Holiday and Admiral don’t follow the increase, so they come back down to $2.99. A day and a half later, everyone is at $3.19. It used to be (before the pandemic) that the gas companies had set excuses: one was the “winter blend” and the other was that phantom refinery fire. Real threats

EDITOR: Before the midterm elections there were some letters that Trump was a threat to democracy, not his policies but his election denial that he thought was stolen from him. We now find out that his campaign was spied on from the start and fisa warrants obtained illegally but if i were to list everything the Feds tried to stop his presidency I would run out of room for this venue. You can see why he had a hard time trusting the system. Here is what I think are the real threats to our republic. Gender terms

EDITOR: Over the past years there has been noticeable attempts to socially alter (through political means) the definition or meaning of terms associated with gender and sex. There is no scientific evidence that in humans there are sexes other than male and female. “Gender” is simply a construction of languages in an attempt to categorize words. Languages derived from Latin, or northern European origins recognize the equivalent of masculine “he/him”, feminine “she/her” and neutral “it/them” as expressions of gender. EDITOR: Recently I tested positive for COVID-19. I am 44 years old, and in overall good health. COVID hit me like a freight train. It was terrible. One day, a runny nose, but the next day, total exhaustion, with cold and flu-like symptoms, along with a persistent cough. For several days, getting out of bed took everything I had, just to get water and to use the restroom, then right back to bed. I was vaccinated with Moderna, and a booster shot about a year ago.
