Gladstone senior Tyler Soderman named swimmer of the year in the U.P.

MARQUETTE — Tyler Soderman had quite a day at the Upper Peninsula Swim Finals, earning Swimmer of the Year honors here Saturday. The Gladstone senior won the boys’ 50-yard freestyle race in 23.03 seconds and copped 100 freestyle at 50.92, both personal best times. Marquette was crowned champion for the eighth straight year with 298 points, followed by Kingsford 200 and Sault Ste. Marie 184. Gladstone placed fifth at 142. ESCANABA — Freshman Rayne Martin shined for the Escanaba gymnastics as they topped Bark River-Harris 135.1-129.975 in a dual meet featuring season-best scores for both teams here Thursday night.
