BARK RIVER — The Bark River-Harris Broncos looked to be in mid-season form as they swept a baseball doubleheader over North Central here Thursday.
The Broncos took game one convincingly 11-1 and came from behind to win 4-3 in game two.
The Broncos got a great pitching performance from junior Kaleb Desilits as he allowed one run on one hit with seven strikeouts and three walks.
“I found a rhythm on the mound today,” Desilits said, “My catcher did a good job of stopping stuff and I had the trust in my guys behind me and they did great.”
The Jets pushed one run across in the top of the first inning and from there on it was all Broncos as Andy Johnson grounded out to score a run and Chase Richer got an RBI on a line drive and reached on an error scoring a run. Brock Brunette reached on a dropped third strike to bring in another run and Carter Nelson hit an RBI-single to third base to extend the Broncos lead to 4-1.
The Broncos led 6-1 going into the bottom of the fifth inning where they put the game away scoring five runs and winning via the mercy rule.
“I couldn’t be more happy with my boys tonight,” Broncos coach Mick Reynolds said. “The heart they showed tonight by battling from behind to get a win in a tough game, there is a lot of baseball left but we are going in the right direction.”
In the second game, the Broncos got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning as Richer came through with an RBI-single and Brunette hit a ground ball and reached on an error to score a run and put the Broncos up 2-0.
The Jets tied the game in the top of the fourth as Ty Veeser singled on a groundball to center field scoring a run and Seth Buck hit into a fielder’s choice to score the tying run.
The Jets took the lead in the top of the fifth inning as senior Brady Trudgeon doubled and scored on a RBI-single by Nathan Pipkorn to put the Jets up 3-2.
The Broncos responded in the bottom of the fifth inning as Richer singled to score a run. Richer was 3 for 3 in the contest with two runs scored and one RBI. Brunette grounded out to the pitcher to bring in a run to put the Broncos up 4-3.
The Jets had a chance in the sixth inning but Seth Buck was tagged out at home.
“I thought our guys played well tonight, Jets coach Ben Snyder said. “Credit to them they are a good team but it’s heartbreaking to not get that second game.
