Escanaba defeats Gladstone in tennis action

ESCANABA — The Escanaba tennis team was happy to be back on the court together Wednesday after some players were gone on a band trip to New vYork The Eskymos picked up right where they left off as Brett Swanson defeated Brant Veeser at No. 2 singles in two sets 6-3, 6-2.

“My forehand has been working well for me,” Swanson said. “The Wind is always a challenge you think you have a point and it blows out but you get used to it but is is tough to play in,”

The Eskymos also picked up a win at No. 2 doubles as seniors Taylor Asgaard and Dominick Parlato defeated Gladstone’s Matthew Hagebusch and Nick Thill 6-3, 6-2.

“We made them hit weak returns,” Asgaard said. The serving was the strength of the match, stated Parlato.

“We had our serves going well and when that is going well its usually going to go your way.”

Chase Korpi picked up a three-set victory at No. 1 singles as he defeated James Blair 6-2, 5-7, 6-0.

The Braves won at No. 3 singles as Chase Ketcham defeated Chris Economopoulos 6-2, 6-0 and at No.1 doubles as Tyler Soderman and Teagan Reynolds defeated Escanaba’s Logan Stephens and Jacob Prey 6-1, 7-6(6).
