Gladstone Minor baseball wins 2024 District 10 title

IRON MOUNTAIN — Runs were at a premium on Tuesday as the Kingsford and Gladstone 10U Minors All-Stars faced off at Larry Barkle Field in Iron Mountain with the Michigan Minor Little League District 10 title on the line.

After a tense six innings, Gladstone picked up a 2-1 win to secure the District 10 crown.

Avery Silta started the game on the mound for Gladstone. He struck out eight in 5.2 innings while surrendering two hits and one earned run.

Kade Neuens started for Kingsford. He fanned 10 batters in 5.2 innings while surrendering two hits and a walk.

With both pitchers in a rhythm, It was Gladstone that struck first. In the top of the second, Silya scored on a passed ball to take a 1-0 lead.

Gladstone tacked on another run in the top of the fifth on an RBI-single from Silta that scored Abel Ellison, increasing the advantage to 2-0.

In the next half inning, Kingsford responded. With runs on first and second, Jade Unrein hit a line drive to center field to score Cooper Momont. It trailed 2-1.

Neither team would score again and Gladstone secured a trip to Ishpeming for the Michigan Minor League State Championship tournament on Thursday, July 25.

Offensively, Silta led the way for Gladstone with one RBI. Abel Ellison, Silta and Keagan Chenier each had a hit. Charles Beauchamp drew Gladstone’s lone walk while Abel Ellison and Beauchamp tallied one stolen base.

For Kingsford, Unrein led the way with an RBI. Matteo Santoni and Unrein each had one hit while Jacob Zawada and Jacob Andes drew one walk apiece.
