Escanaba Speedway inducts four into Hall of Fame

ESCANABA — The Escanaba Speedway inducted its inaugural class to its Hall of Fame on Saturday. Bob Iverson, Allan Yelle, Jerry Richer and Don Benoit were the four inductees.
The racing was good and hotly contested in the youth sprints. It was Kaleb Warm coming away with the feature win with Tanner Rae in second and Amelia Hart in third after stating eighth on the starting grid.
The Sportsman sprints saw Ethan Manninen back up last week’s feature win with his second of the year and coming from a sixth place start to do so. Macy Degnan took second place and Braxton Lundquist came in third after winning a heat race earlier in the night.
The 600 sprints saw Logan Getzloff come away with the feature win followed by Kevin Warm in his first race of the season in second place. Rick Ness came in third place.
The street stocks race was a wild one with Paul Wagner having a rough night starting second in the feature ond ending up with a DNF. Jason Piron took the feature win for the street stocks with Neil Aaberg coming in second after an eighth place start. Evin Gagne came away with a third place finish.
The sport mods had probably the best race of the night with many position changes up and down the lineup. Matt Valliquette took the feature win from a sixth place start. Don Peterson took home a second place finish after starting the race 11th on the grid. Doug Belgonia Jr finished third after starting in 16th on the starting grid.
The sport compacts had Tombo Waselesky pick up the feature win and heat win after a DNF the week before. Elliot Reid came in second and Mark Isley came in third.
The vintage modifieds saw no change in the second night. Scott Degnan came away with his second win on the season while Charles Peterson finished in second for the second week in a row. Clayton Peterson finished third after finishing third a week ago.
The exhibition vintage class saw Hall of Fame inductee Don Benoit win the heat race while Herb Iverson took home the feature win.
The Escanaba Speedway will be back in action on June 17 with First Responders Night. Gates open at 5 p.m. and racing starts at 7 p.m.
