ESCANABA — The Escanaba Eskymos were in complete control here Wednesday night as they defeated the Marquette Sentinels 11-1.
Cannon Arnt was in mid-season form allowing one run on four hits with nine strikeouts and one walk.
“It felt good out there today,” Arnt said. “I was just pounding the fastball because they were having a hard time hitting it.”
The Eslymos got on the board first in the top of the first inning as Graham Johnson had an RBI-single then later scored on a wild pitch to put the Eskymos up 2-1. Junior Mikaiden Hughes grounded out to score a run and extend the Eskymos lead to 3-1.
The Eskymos added eight runs in the bottom of the third inning as Hughes got a lead-off single. Lennox Peacock doubled on a line drive to left field and Conner Asgaard scored on wild pitch to put the Eskymos up 4-1.
Escanaba senior Max LeDuc singled on a ground ball to put the Eskymos up 5-1 and Bryce Bichler had a two-run single to extend the Eskymos lead 7-1.
“We exploded right from the get go,” Bichler said, “Cannon pitched well and the defense behind him did a good job of making plays behind him.”
The Eskymos tallied 11 hits to only four for the Sentinels.
“We jumped on them early tonight,” Hanson said. “I was happy all our seniors contributed on senior night and Cannon did a good job pitching.”
In the JV game, Tim Robitaille pitched three solid innings and recorded five strikeouts allowing two runs on five hits.
“I felt pretty good on the mound today,” Robitaille said. “The defense did a good job behind me and it was great to get a win.”
The JV team won 6-3. Conner Asgaard reached base twice on errors and drove in three runs.
“You have to run every play out,” Asgaard said. “We played well today and this win will give us a big boost of confidence going forward.”
The Eskymos will play two games at home on Saturday as they host Norway and Rudyard.
