Braves XC take fourth
DAVISBURG, Mich. — Gladstone senior Drew Hughes led the way for the Gladstone boys here Saturday, placing fourth in Division 3 at the Holly Invitational cross country meet.
Last year’s champ covered the 3.1-mile course in 16 minutes, 57.2 seconds.
Armada’s Camden Khon won at 16:32, followed by Flint Powers Catholic’s David Murphy (16:48) and Sault Ste. Marie freshman Gabe Litzner (16:50).
Sault senior Cody Aldridge placed eighth (17:25.5).
Gladstone sophomore Aaron Hughes took 30th (18:37.7), followed by junior Tanner Howes 36th (18:56.6) and freshmen Teagan Reynolds 92nd (21:45.8) and Grady Nelson 96th (22:07.5) and senior Alex Eilola 97th (22:14.2).
Frankenmuth took the team title with 91 points, followed by Richland Gull Lake and Flint Powers 113 and Sault 138. Gladstone placed 10th at 255.
The Goodrich girls took the title with 57 points, followed by Frankenmuth 69 and Caro 87. Gladstone was 16th at 436.
Frankenmuth’s Mary Richmond won in 18:38.6, followed by Goodrich’s Kamryn Lauinger (19:33.2) and Orchard Lake St. Mary’s Mea D’agostino (19:47.8).
Sault junior Cassandra Gallagher was ninth (20:18.5).
Freshman Payton Takkunen was Gladstone’s leader in 77th (24:38.9), followed by sophomore Lauren Sundquist 81st (24:58.7), junior Kayla Farnes 90th (25:43.8), sophomore Kristy Karl 94th (26:03) and freshman Lexi Gilbert 109th (30:06.1).
The Braves travel to Munising for the El Harger Memorial Invitational Sept. 27.
In the D-5 girls’ race, Munising’s Olivia Cotey was 26th (22:55.7), and Hattie Cota took 27th (22:57.1).
