HARRIS — The Bark River-Harris boys wasted very little time taking charge on Senior Night here Tuesday in a 64-47 basketball triumph over the Carney-Nadeau Wolves.
BR-H dashed to a 19-0 lead in this Skyline Central Conference outing, climaxed on a jump shot from the left corner by senior Logan Getzloff.
Senior guard Jerry Lee LaFord got the Wolves on the board by splitting a pair of free throws nearly 3 1/2 minutes into the contest.
BR-H extended its cushion to 26-4 on a 12-foot floater by senior center Qwentin Johnson late in the opening frame and made it 30-9 on a pair of gifters by junior Kaden Drossart with 5:24 remaining in the second.
The Broncos continued to add to their advantage, which reached 43-19 on a 20-foot jumper by Getzloff with eight seconds remaining in the second frame.
“We played our best first half of the year,” said BR-H coach Nick Lippens. “We came out with a lot of energy and attacked the rim. We defended and rebounded real well in the first half.”
BR-H led by as much as 60-28 following a steal and layup by Drossart late in the third stanza before the Wolves closed the gap in the fourth which was too little, too late.
The Wolves, often limited to one shot, were unable to find their rhythm and hit just 5-of-28 in the first half. They finished 10-of-15 from the free throw line and committed 12 turnovers.
“You’re not going to win many games when you shoot like that,” said C-N coach Mike Polfus. “They came out with more energy than we did. We emphasized boxing out and didn’t do the best job with that either. We did a good job handling the ball and at the line, but it was basically our shooting that hurt us more than anything. You can’t go down by 20 points in the first quarter and expect to win.”
Getzloff scored 14 points, and Johnsen and senior Trizden Tufnell added 10 apiece for the Broncos, who had 19 turnovers.
“Overall, we’ve been coming together in the last couple weeks,” said Lippens. “We’re really looking forward to the last quarter of the season. I think we’re going to get better.”
Wandahsega paced the Wolves with 12 points, and senior guard Peyton Imhoff had 11.
BR-H, which also won the JV game 59-32, visits Forest Park Friday. C-N travels to North Dickinson Friday.
