Wolverines girls rally past Superior Central Mon.

EBEN — After a slow first quarter, the Mid Peninsula girls basketball team rallied past Superior Central for a 44-38 victory Monday in Eben.

“Great game for the girls tonight,” Mid Pen coach Phil Croasdell said. “We played some good defense against a very quick Superior Central team.”

A slow start for the Wolverines gave way to a rally that finished in the third quarter.

After the first, the Cougars led 14-9, but Mid Pen cut its deficit to 23-22 at halftime.

Mid Pen clamped down in the third, leading 36-31 on its way to a win.

“Beginning of the third quarter, Superior Central got a couple of quick buckets and went up 27-22 before I called time out,” Croasdell said. “Our girls got their composure back and went on a nice run led by Landry Koski and Shae Lampinen to finish up leading 36-31 at the end of the third.

“We buckled down on defense in the fourth quarter and settled down on offense and just took good shots to finish out. A lot of our girls know each other, so they want to beat each other that much more.”

Koski led the Wolverines with 15.

The Cougars were led by Maddie Begovac and Riley Johnson with nine apiece.

“Coach Skip Rutter has a pretty good group of girls that don’t give up,” Croasdell said. “Riley Johnson and Emma Rutter were playing pretty tough inside against us and getting a few second shots.”

Mid Pen hosts Engadine Monday, and Superior Central hosts North Dickinson.
