Mid Pen Wolverines holds off Munising 3-2 in five setter

MUNISING — The Mid Peninsula volleyball team held off a five-setter here Wednedsay by winning a fourth set in extra points against Munising, 4-0 (25-23, 25-8, 20-25, 27-25).

“The third set, we just struggled with serve-receive a little bit,” Mid Pen coach Emily Kayser said. “Other than that, we overcame it in all the other sets.”

The Mustangs bounced back after dropping two sets — the second 25-8 — to win the third, but the Wolverines closed off their chacne at victory in extra points in the fourth set.

“The third and fourth sets, they were just so much fun to watch tonight,” Kayser said. “We had a lot of long volleys, and we had very few service errors, which I like to see.”

Kayser — who mentioned Kora Prater’s multiple back row saves as a highlight of the night — added that the Wolverines were playing at their best.

“Tonight, all of our cylinders were firing,” she said. “Our back row was phemonemal. They were picking up a bunch of digs — saving a bunch of balls — and the girls, they just hustled for everything.

“All the girls are just stepping into their roles, and it’s right where we want to be … just firing on all cylinders.”

Mid Pen, which won the JV match 2-0, travels to North Central Tuesday.
