19 area players earn GNC softball honors

ESCANABA — A total of 10 softball players from Escanaba and nine from Gladstone earned Great Northern Conference All-Conference Awards this week.

Carney Salo of Escanaba was named GNC Defensive Player of the Year, with Kingsford’s Delaney Cram earning Offensive Player of the Year.

On the GNC All-Conference First Team from Escanaba was Carsyn Segorski, McKayla Mott, McKenna Bullen, Nicole Kamin, Emily Moore and Paxton Bullen.

Gladstone players named to the First Team included Montgomery Pepin and Rylee Gerow.

Escanaba’s Erica Moore, Lizzy Sliva and Anna Boutilier earned GNC second-team honors.

Gladstone’s Maggie Buckley, Kenzingtin Pepin, Alaina Trudeau, Marnnea LaFave, Addie Trombley and Aliana Martinez also received spots on the second team.

The Braves’ Reese Herioux also earned an honorable mention.

Both the Braves and Eskymos earned district titles this year.

Gladstone beat Iron Mountain 15-2, while Escanaba beat Cheboygan 18-0 to win their respective districts.

Both teams made it to the regional semifinals before falling out of the postseason.

The Braves ended the season 17-9 and the Eskymos 21-10.
