Big Bay girls claim U.P. Division Three title

WATERSMEET — The Big Bay de Noc girls golf team cruised their way to a golf championship in division 3 with a score of 475. Ontonagon was second with a score of 532, the only two teams to field five-person teams.

Ontonagon junior Summer Stites had the best score of the day with a 103, followed by Big Bay de Noc junior Payton Pederson who posted a score of 108. Pederson had bogeys on the first four holes but had a rough day on the back nine including the 15th hole where he took 10 strokes to make it in.

Lakelyn Bunker, a senior from Mackinac Island tied for third with Caragan Thill, a senior from Big Bay de Noc with 110. Thill parred two of the first three holes. Thill took ten strokes to make it on the par four 10th hole but rebounded with a pair of par’s on 12 and 18.

Black Bears eighth grader Ivy Gates was seventh on the day with a score of 121 and Karlee Kuehl also an eighth grader at Big Bay, finished 10th with a score of 136.
