HERMANSVILLE — The second night of the men’s portion of the 82nd Gold Medal Classic had a triple-overtime Class C game in the 9 p.m. time slot Thursday night.
Behind a game-high 35 points from former Bark River-Harris standout Justin Bloniarz, Juiced Apparel defeated 3’s Company of Gladstone, 99-89. Zack Rose and Ashton Janke each netted 28 points to pace 3’s Company.
Jacob Polfus netted 15 points for Juiced, with Joe Gibbs tallying the same amount for 3’s Company. Joey Pontbriand chipped in 13 points for Juiced.
The first game of the night, a Class E matchup, was between two Menominee County teams. Max Baumler canned a game-high 20 points, as the Church Ballers of Daggett slipped past the Stephenson Strollers, 59-52. Bryce Kuenhneu led the Strollers with 17 points.
Josh Granquist poured in a game-high 33 points in the 8 p.m. game, as Wildwood Restaurant powered past Jim’s Plumbing of Wallace, 86-39. Jordan Belec led the Plumbers with 18 points, while Jason Stein netted 17 points, and Tom Granquist added 15 points for Wildwood.
Also on Thursday night, Tournament Director Bryan Maule presented Gerald Whitens of Powers with a lifetime dedication plaque. Whitens has been involved with the tournament as a player or official for over 35 years.
Maule also presented two other awards on Thursday night. Stein and Tom Granquist of Powers were awarded 25-year participation plaques.
The final two games of Thursday night were Class C games, and the results weren’t available at press time.
There are five games on the docket for Friday night, beginning with two class E games at 7 and 8 p.m.
The 7 p.m. game is CTR44 versus Wildwood Restaurant, both of Hermansville. The winner of CTR-Wildwood will play Premium Mulch of Powers at 9 p.m. in a Class E semifinal game.
The 8 p.m. game will feature Wendricks Truss of Hermansville taking on the Church Ballers of Daggett in a Class E semifinal game.
Class B gets started at 8 p.m. with Bloniarz Farms of Perronville taking on Arms of Angels from DePere, Wis. Past Gold Medal participants, former University of Wisconsin-Green Bay cager Jeff Norgard and former St. Norbert’s College player Adam Lemorande are on the Arms of Angels roster.
At 11 p.m., a Class C game between Gatien Farm & Forest versus the Church Ballers of Daggett.
There will be 14 games played on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. Class A tips off at 10 a.m. with U.P.’s Finest of Crystal Falls taking on Juice Promotions of Carney.
The woman’s division, which has four entries this year, will have two preliminary games back to back Saturday at 3 and 4 p.m.
