EBEN — Matt McLaury tossed a no-hitter, struck out five and walked four here Friday as the Superior Central Cougars posted a 14-0 baseball triumph in five innings over the Manistique Emeralds.

“Matt doesn’t throw overly hard, but mixes his speeds real well,” said Cougars’ coach Walt Smith. “He works the strike zone from top to bottom and tonight he kept their hitters off balance. It’s good to see that Manistique has a team. They’re going to get better. They have good numbers.”

Sophomore rightfielder Lucas Swetich had two hits and scored three runs.

“We had few a few hitters with one,” said Smith. “We had balanced scoring throughout our lineup.”

The Cougars (2-1) visit Bark River-Harris for a doubleheader Monday. The Emeralds (0-5) host Newberry Tuesday.
