Broncos sweep Jets in eight

BARK RIVER — The Bark River-Harris Broncos made short work of the North Central Jets here Friday night in a pair of 10-0 baseball victories.

Both games lasted just four innings.

BR-H scored six times in the first inning of the second game, taking advantage of five walks and RBI singles to leftfield by Johnnie Robinette and Max Hall.

The Broncos (9-2) cashed in on three more walks and a hit batsman while adding two runs in the second and finished the scoring in the third on a single to right by Tyler Racicot.

“We played pretty well tonight,” said BR-H coach Al Botwright. “We had very good pitching. It helps when you throw the ball across the plate, and the guys were throwing strikes. Offensively, we got into hitters’ counts and took advantage of some walks.”

Nick Javurek and Hall combined on a two-hitter. Javurek recorded five strikeouts through three innings, and Hall got two in the fourth.

Robinette, Hall and Aiden Johnson had two hits apiece for the Broncos.

Luke Gorzinski singled to right in the first, and Fabian Charter added a single to center in the second for the Jets (0-6).

“We made too many errors,” said Jets’ coach Jason Mercier. “We have 13 underclassmen. We’re a very young team. We just ran out of pitching. We don’t have the depth right now, but we’ll be a different team by the end of the year. Even though it’s a struggle on the scoreboard, we play all 18 players.”

Losing pitcher Owen Eichmeier worked the first inning before Gavin Casperson relieved in the second.

“Owen volunteered to pitch and did admirably,” said Mercier. “He hadn’t pitched before tonight. We’ll work with him in the bullpen. We saw some promising things there. Gavin did admirably, too.”

The Broncos secured the opener by scoring seven times in the third frame.

Carter Zawacki, Johnson and Robinette had RBI singles and Mack ripped an RBI double in the third and an error on a ball put in play by Racicot led to another run.

Mack recorded a complete-game victory by striking out three and allowing just a single to Gorzinski.

Adrian Mercier absorbed the loss, surrendering seven runs on five hits in 2 2/3 innings. He fanned three.

BR-H finished with eight hits, led by Zawacki and Josiah Javurek with two apiece.

“Back-to-back doubleheaders are tough on any team,” said Botwright. “I’ll give them all the credit in the world for coming over here after going 12 innings last night.

The Broncos host Superior Central Monday. The Jets visit the Cougars for a twinbill Thursday.

Starting at $4.00/week.
