Scott Hanson named to Athletic Director for Escanaba High School

Newly-appointed Escanaba Athletic Director Scott Hanson

ESCANABA — For over 30 years Scott Hanson has been with the Escanaba School District and even graduated from Escanaba in 1987. Hanson served as a Social Studies teacher and coached JV basketball for 23 years and varsity for two seasons. He coached the boys tennis team for five years and he has been the varsity baseball coach for nine years and will continue to coach baseball as he transitions into a new role as the district’s Athletic Director taking over for Nate Zarenba who resigned this spring.

“It’s the right time and place for me to take this job on,” Hanson said. “I’m ready for the challenge. I look forward to working with players and coaches and giving everything I have for this school.”

Hanson takes over as the football team comes off one of its best seasons in years and Eskymos coach Bailey Lamb returns after winning Coach of the Year last year and leading the Eskymos back to the playoffs and even winning a playoff game.

“I have a lot of learning to do,” Hanson said. “I have to get to know all the kids in other sports and work with all the coaches and just hit the ground running.

Hanson comes off a good baseball season where the Eskymos claimed the district championship but fell 1-0 in the regional final that would have sent them to state. Hanson has taken on challenges over his career and has succeeded at many levels. This fall the Escanaba Schools Athletic Department is in the hands of a true Eskymo.

Starting at $4.00/week.
