BR-H earns 1st win

BARK RIVER — The Bark River-Harris Broncos broke into the win column for the first time this season, sweeping to 9-5 and 13-3 softball victories over the Superior Central Cougars here Friday.

BR-H’s Faith Javurek and Lexi Berg went 3-for-3 in the nightcap and Tiffany Roll’s RBI single sealed the verdict in the fifth inning.

Esther Oswald was the winning pitcher in both games.

“It helps when your defense makes plays,” said BR-H coach Rob Arndt. “We talked about getting quality at bats and got some walks and hits. It was exciting to get two wins. We’ve been working on the little things and tonight it paid off.”

Berg clubbed a three-run inside the park home run and finished 3-for-3 in the opener. Lauren Zawada added two hits.

Shae Lampinen collected three hits and Emma Rutter added two in the first game for the Cougars (1-6), who host Norway in a doubleheader Tuesday.

“They had probably six or seven unearned runs,” said Cougars’ coach Richard Swajanen. “Rachel (Johnson) couldn’t get here until the third inning of the second game, but pitched well and retired them in order in the fifth and sixth innings. She has good off speed and changes her speeds well. Overall, we just had too many errors and wild pitches.”

The Broncos (2-8) visit Gladstone for a twinbill Monday.

Starting at $4.00/week.
