Mid Pen falls to Nordics

ST. NICHOLAS — The Mid Peninsula boys basketball team had a fighting chance against North Dickinson, but a spate of turnovers led to a 40-24 loss Thursday at Mid Peninsula.

“The first half was pretty much the same as it’s always been,” Mid Pen coach Mark Branstrom said. “We had way too many turnovers (23 vs 12). If it wasn’t for the turnovers, I think we had a decent showing. There was a lot of good in this game, but when you turn the ball over that many times.”

The Wolverines trailed 15-10 at the half, but the Nordics continued adding cushion to lead 24-10 at the end of the third and outscore Mid Pen 14-10 in the fourth.

“North Dickinson did a good job defending against us,” Branstrom said. “We gave up way too many layups.”

Jonas Cretens led the Wolverines with eight points and 12 rebounds.

“As far as I was concerned, the brightest spot for us was Jonas Cretens,” Branstrom said. “He’s a freshman center, and he’s been doing better and better. He came off the bench, and he’s been playing well for us.”
