Local players earn 13 spots in Skyline

ESCANABA — Fitting for a team that made it to a state semifinal, the Carney-Nadeau volleyball team was named the Small School Conference Champion in the Skyline Central Conference by coaches. Additionally, area players and coaches filled out another 12 slots.

The Wolves received a wide breadth of honors. Senior outside hitter Taylor Kedsch, who earned a spot on the All-State Division 4 Third Team, was named player of the year, and seniors Haley Ernest and Liana Blahnik, who earned an All-State Honorable Mention, made first team.

Joining the Wolves on the first team are Bark River-Harris’ Tressa Ives, a junior, and Superior Central junior Riley Johnson.

Rounding out the first team was Paige Cappaert from Stephenson, Kassandra Cary from North Dickinson and Olivia Stanchina from Norway.

The Wolves earned another prestigious spot with coach Steve Kedsch, who was awarded Coach of the Year.

In the Large School Conference category, Bark River was named the varsity champions, and Stephenson and Bark River tied for JV champs. Superior Central earned the top spot amongst the JV Small School Conference.

On the second team, the Broncos’ sophomore Carley Varoni and senior Allison Richer made the cut along with Rapid River junior Addie Christoff and Wolves’ junior Mackenzie Walcher.

Joining them on second team are Stephenson’s Justine Havelka and Forest Park’s Gracie Peterson.

Earning honorable mention are Bark River senior Selena Britton, Rapid River junior Gabby Moss and senior Emily Goodacre, Superior Central juniors Emma Rutter and Maggie Rondeau, North Dickinson’s Chrislyn Inglese, and Stephenson’s Gena Anders.

Macy Johnson of Forest Park received the Individual Sportsmanship award, and Munising earned the Team Sportsmanship honor.

North Dickinson’s Ashton Hord was named Defensive Specialist.
