Escanaba Cubs crush Niagara in season opener
ESCANABA — Walks and errors told the story here Tuesday night as the Escanaba Cubs defeated Niagara 20-1.
Carter Seidel got the start for Niagara and allowed eight runs on three hits with eight walks in the first inning. Daunte Sandoval took over in relief and gave up 12 runs and walked 10 batters.
The Cubs had a two run single in the first inning to put the Cubs up 6-0.
In the second inning, Braun, Graham Juhnson and Joey Garcia each had a run producing hits as the Cubs extended their lead to 14-0.
“They were throwing a lot of balls,” Braun said. “I knew when I saw a strike I was gonna hit it and I got a hold of one and brought in two runs.”
The Cubs got through the came saving pitchers for the weekend tournament as Timmy Robitaille got the start and allowed zero runs on one hit with one strikeout and one walk. Alex Irving pitched for two innings allowing one run on one hit with three strikeouts and zero walks and Blake Gagnon went one inning allowing zero runs on one hit with one strikeout and zero walks.
