LaFord named to AP All-State second team in D-4
Brett LaFord
ESCANABA — Brett LaFord was already regarded as one of the top boys basketball players in the U.P.
Now, he’s been named one of the best in the state.
Carney-Nadeau’s 6-foot-1 senior point guard was selected to the Associated Press All-State second team in Division 4 Monday after leading the Wolves to a 15-7 season.
LaFord has already been named the Skyline Central Conference player of the year and an All-U.P. first team selection. He averaged 23 points and rebounds per game this season, eclipsing the 1,000-point mark in a 62-56 win at Bark River-Harris Feb. 18. He scored over 30 points three times, including setting a new career-high with 40 in an 89-43 victory over Superior Central Jan. 28.
Making the first team from the U.P. are Dollar Bay’s Ashton Janke and Pickford’s Nick Edington. Janke was named the Division 4 player of the year in the U.P.
Earning all-state honorable mention from the area are Rapid River’s Tyler Sundling, Mid Peninsula’s Zach Englund and North Central teammates Luke Gorzinski and Noah Gorzinski. Also receiving honorable mention from the U.P. are Ewen-Trout Creek’s Jaden Borseth, Dollar Bay’s Davin Hill and Brimley’s Zach Gross.
