Escanaba sweeps Menominee in softball doubleheader

MENOMINEE — The Escanaba Eskymos generated plenty of offense here Wednesday, sweeping to 16-0 and 18-0 victories in a softball doubleheader.

Abby Derkos collected three hits and drove in five runs in the opener.

Among her hits were a three-run double in the second inning and a two-run double in the third.

Harlee Coolman ripped a two-run double and Landry Bray an RBI double in the opening frame.

The Eskymos showed patience at the plate, drawing 14 walks. Mara Anderson and Chloe Dubord led the team with three apiece.

Bray struck out the side in the third stanza and the Eskymos committed no errors.

Koller Hayes was Esky’s defensive leader with seven catches.

The first game lasted just three innings and the second game went four.

Coolman went 4-for-4 and Dubord had four of Esky’s 17 hits in the nightcap.

Breleigh Reinhart, Bray and Derkos also had multiple hits and Cam Buckley drew two of the six walks allowed by Menominee’s pitching.

Esky scored nine times on seven hits in the fourth.

Bray rapped an RBI double and Derkos clubbed a two-run single. Reinhart, Mary Kate Tourangeau and Coolman added RBI singles.

Buckley ripped a three-run homer to centerfield in the second. Dubord, who stole two bases, added an RBI double and Derkos and Coolman had RBI singles.

The Maroons managed just three hits off Buckley, who struck out six and walked none.

Kylie Kellner, who pitched into the fourth, took the loss.

Esky (11-3) is downstate today to face Clio in a twinbill at 4 p.m. Menominee (8-8) travels to Marquette Tuesday.
