Marquette sweeps Escanaba in tennis action

MARQUETTE — It was a tough day on the court for the Escanaba boys tennis team as they fell 8-0 to Marquette.

The Eskymos best match of the day came at No. 2 singles as junior Brett Swanson went the distance against Marquette’s Brady Janofski. Swanson dropped the first set 4-6 before taking the second set 6-3 and losing the third set 3-6.

“Brett continued to shine today,” Eskymos coach Alan Adams said. “Even with the loss today Brett continues to show his ability to go toe to toe or better with everyone in his field.”

Escanaba sophomore Kyle Smith dropped both sets to Marquette’s Caden Laurn 6-3, 7-5.

“Kyle came into his match undefeated today,” Adams said. “Kyle continues to force his opponents to earn every point against him.”

Marquette’sLucas Belkowski picked up the win over Escanaba freshmen Chase Korpi 6-0, 6-0 and at No. 1 singles and at No. 1 doubles Marquette’s Winston Leonard and Conner Henry defeated Escanaba seniors Taylor Asgaard and Dominic Parlato 6-0, 6-0.
