Norse baseball swept by ASA College in doubleheader
LAKE WORTH, Fla. — The Bay College baseball team had a couple rough outings for the second consecutive day here Tuesday, dropping a doubleheader to ASA College (Miami). The Norse dropped the opener 8-1 and the nightcap 16-0.
Bay trailed just 2-0 entering the top of the sixth in the opener when Nicolas Goebert led off with a double. He later scored on an error, trimming Bay’s deficit to 2-1.
That’s as close as the Norse (2-5) would get, however, as ASA plated six runs in the bottom half of the inning to blow the game wide open.
After pitching five strong innings, Kyler Moir was the hard-luck loser, surrendering eight runs (two earned) on five hits while striking out five and walking six through 5 1/3. Shaw Bowser pitched the remainder of the fifth in relief.
Goebert, Lucas Weinert, Ben Snyder and Jared Crow each had two hits for the Norse, who stranded 11 baserunners.
The nightcap wasn’t nearly as competitive, as ASA (13-11) scored two runs in the first, three in the second and 11 in the third to win in a rout.
Crow took the loss, surrendering seven runs on six hits while walking five over two innings.
Mike Campbell, Sam Schneider, Jackson Bower and Matt Richer Jr. all pitched in relief for the Norse, who collected just three hits.
The Norse were to resume this morning at 10 a.m. against the College of Lake County before facing Nyack College at 1 p.m.
