Jets slip past Forest Park in overtime

CRYSTAL FALLS — The North Central boys didn’t make it easy on themselves, but they found a way to persevere for a 49-46 overtime victory at Forest Park Tuesday night in a Skyline Central Conference boys basketball tilt.

The Jets (13-6, 13-5 SC) trailed 18-16 at the half, then went up by two at the end of the third quarter before needing overtime to pull off the win.

“We tried shooting ourselves in the foot several times and pulled out a win in overtime,” Jets coach Mike Malone said. “We played really well at times, but at the end of the game we had a lot of miscues. But we kept battling and kept battling and persevered to get the win. We’ll take it.”

Luke Gorzinski led the Jets with 19 points. Keal Emmers had 15 for the Trojans (9-11, 7-9 SC), while Tommy Showers added 11.

“We did a lot of good things and a lot of bad things as well,” Malone said. “We need to shore up our mistakes if we want to win in the postseason. We gotta shore up our turnovers for sure. It’s one thing to say it but another thing to do it. We persevered through it, guys didn’t hang their heads, and we kept getting after it. I’m proud of them for that.”

The Jets, who also won the JV game, wrap up their regular season at home against Mid Peninsula for Senior Night Thursday.
