Esky, Gladstone earn recognition in GNC

Kamin and Crow named to first team

WELLS — Escanaba’s Nicole Kamin and Gladstone’s Megan Crow will be teammates on the basketball court at Grand Valley State University in a couple years, but for now, they’re teammates on the Great Northern Conference first team.

The pair was selected to the first team by the league’s coaches at their annual meeting at the Family Inn Monday.

Kamin averaged 17 points per game in the conference, while Crow averaged 13 points in league play.

Joining them on the first team are Kingsford’s Brooke Kriegl, Marquette’s Aspen Michelin and Menominee’s Erin Barrette.

Menominee’s Emma Anderson won Player of the Year and Maroons’ coach Lucas Chouinard won Coach of the Year after the pair guided Menominee to a 20-0 regular season and outright GNC title.

Kriegl earned Defensive Player of the Year honors.

Escanaba’s Taylor Ray and Gladstone’s Maddie Ahlgren highlight the second team. Ray averaged 11.8 points in league play, while Ahlgren averaged 8.8.

Joining them on the second team are Menominee’s Jenna Nolde, Kingsford’s Maggie Strehlow and Marquette teammates Maria Millado and Maddie Carter.

Gladstone’s Andie Balenger and Kamin were also selected to the All-Defensive team. Joining them are Nolde, Michelin and Kingsford’s Ali Doolittle.

Earning honorable mention were Escanaba sophomores Bailey Barron and Madison Monkevich, Gladstone’s Taelor Zeise and Balenger, Marquette’s Reegan Ketzenberger and Sofia van den Ende, Menominee’s Josie Hofer and Makenzie Wellner, and Kingsford’s Christy Glodowski and Doolittle.
