Delta County Board to consider airport hangar upgrades, airfield fuel tanks project
Editor’s note: Meeting agendas are subject to change. The following items were listed on the agenda at the time of publication. The full agenda for today’s meeting can be found on the Delta County website.
ESCANABA — The Delta County Board is set to consider varied agenda items related to the Delta County Airport during its regular meeting this evening, including proposed hangar upgrades and a grant awarded to the airport by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE).
The regular meeting will be held at 5:15 p.m. in the boardroom at the Delta County Service Center, 2920 College Ave.
Airport Manager Ashleigh Young is requesting approval of a $8,090.47 credit to a hangar tenant’s account for documented material costs associated with permanent facility upgrades.
According to the agenda, the request stems from a historical verbal agreement with previous management regarding tenant-funded hangar improvements.
The improvements include the installation of a Modine Hot Dawg 125K heating unit, wall and hangar door insulation, a ceiling fan and protective steel wall sheeting.
The Airport Advisory Board (AAB) has reviewed the request and recommends approval of the credit, noting all modifications must meet State codes. This credit is subsequently contingent upon a successful inspection of the heating system and associated installation by the inspector.
Young is also requesting authorization to post a Request for Proposals (RFP) to clean and paint the airport fuel tanks. She further requests authorization to utilize Associated Energy Group (AEG) Fuels grant funds for the project.
“This project is a necessary maintenance item to ensure the longevity of fuel infrastructure and maintain regulatory compliance,” the agenda item states.
The project will be 100% funded by the AEG Fuels grant awarded to the airport in November 2024.
Delta County commissioners will also consider an agenda item request regarding an EGLE grant awarded to the Delta County Airport in the amount of $487,756.
The award is dedicated to the continued investigation of PFAS (Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances) and the procurement of PFAS-free firefighting equipment to ensure compliance with evolving environmental and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) standards.
Additionally, Young is requesting authorization to execute service contracts for the investigation and finalize equipment purchases as outlined in the grant agreement.
In other business, the board will:
– Consider approval of various requests to fill the positions of deputy probation clerk within the 94th District Court, deputy traffic clerk within the 94th District Court and probation supervisor within the Probate Court.
– Consider approval of administration’s request to reassign Commissioner Patrick Johnson to the Delta County Solid Waste Management Authority (Landfill), a seat that is currently held by Commissioner Kelli van Ginhoven per the 2026 voted upon board assignments.
– Consider approval to compensate County Clerk Nancy Przewrocki for coordinating and overseeing Early Voting for the State/Federal elections. Delta County’s cities and townships have agreed to compensate Przewrocki, according to the agenda item. Local jurisdictions would pay the county, and the county would pay Przewrocki. This does not increase the clerk’s salary, and the clerk is only paid for services they provide.
