Eagles defeat Broncos in conference action

APPLETON — Two U.P. teams took their game to a bigger stage as the Bark River-Harris Broncos took on the Stephenson Eagles at the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Stadium in Appleton here Saturday. The Eagles got the best of the Broncos in the Skyline Central matchup winning 8-4.

The Broncos jumped out to an early lead as junior Andrew Johnson doubled a fly ball to left field to score a run in the first inning and Carter Nelson grounded out to the pitcher to score a run to extend the Broncos lead to 2-0.

The Eagles responded in the bottom of the fourth inning as Nate Klein drew a bases loaded walk and Parker Beal reached on a fielder’s choice and scored on a pair of throwing errors by the Broncos to take a 3-2 lead. Lukas Havelka extended the lead to 4-2. as he reached on an error to score a run.

The Eagles added on to their lead in the fifth inning as they scored a run on a passed ball and then scored on a bases loaded walk taken by Riley Johnson to put the Eagles up 6-0.

The Eagles added two more runs in the sixth inning to take an 8-2 lead. The Broncos got a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning Chase Richer and Carter Pach each grounded out to score a run but came up short.

Chase Monette earned the win for the Eagles, the senior allowed four runs on eight hits with six strikeouts and four walks in the complete seven inning game.
