Esky football clinic
ESCANABA — The 57th Annual Escanaba Football Clinic is taking place April 24 in the large meeting room at the Terrace Bay Inn.
This year’s clinic features three top high school coaches speaking about preparing players each week to be ready for game day, plus a top college offensive coordinator relating an important aspect of his offense to the high school game plan.
Iron Mountain head coach Robin Marttila will speak on “The Mountaineer 53 Defense” at 6 p.m. He will also talk about game week drills and planning, Iron Mountain being a Division 7 semifinal team in 2019 and solid Mountaineer defensive concepts.
Michigan Tech offensive coordinator Dan Mettlach takes centerstage at 7 to talk about “MTU’s Quick Pass Game with RPOs.”
Mettlach will include quarterback and wide receiver drills game week preparation, run-pass option for the high school level game and effective coaching progression in his speech.
Calumet head coach John Croze will speak on “Drill Work with the Copper Kings” at 8.
Croze and the Calumet staff will present their player preparation, talk about Calumet being a Division 6 regional finaiist in 2019 and key reasons why Calumet shows up and plays.
At 9, former Mequon, Wis. (Milwaukee area) Arrowhead coach Fritz Rauch will speak on “Practice Planning for Excellence.”
Rauch is a longtime coach with a longtime solid football program. He’s also an experienced clinician. He will cover practice concepts for small and larger football programs.
Registration fee, which is due April 22, is $35. Cost for three or more coaches from the same school is $30 each. Registration at the clinic costs $40.
