Esky boys ranked fourth in poll

ESCANABA — The Escanaba boys are the only area basketball team ranked in the second-to-last U.P. poll released by the Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association Monday.

The Eskymos maintained their No. 4 spot in Division 1-3 after finishing the regular season 13-7. Iron Mountain is still unbeaten and the unanimous No. 1, followed by Marquette, Negaunee, Esky and Munising.

Dollar Bay is still the unanimous No. 1 in Division 4 despite suffering a 60-48 loss to third-ranked Chassell Friday. Pickford remained No. 2, followed by Chassell, Ewen-Trout Creek and Rudyard. North Central dropped from No. 3 to unranked after losing twice last week. The Jets received three points and Carney-Nadeau received four.

In Division 1-3 girls, Menominee was still undefeated and the unanimous selection for No. 1 before being upset by Gladstone in the first round of district play Monday. The Maroons were followed by Sault Ste. Marie, Westwood, Calumet and Negaunee.

St. Ignace is still the unanimous No. 1 in Division 4, followed by Ewen-Trout Creek, Baraga, North Dickinson and Pickford.
