Braves’ trio earns M-PC recognition

CHAMPION — A few days after earning Great Northern Conference first team honors, Gladstone juniors Cam Ballard and Rane Castor continued to add to their postseason awards by being named to the Mid-Peninsula Conference second team during the coaches annual meeting at Wawonowin Country Club in Ishpeming Monday.

Ballard averaged 15.3 points per game in conference play, while Castor averaged 13.9.

Iron Mountain junior Foster Wonders was named Player of the Year after leading the U.P.’s top-ranked Mountaineers to a 19-1 record and a share of the conference title with Negaunee. Wonders, an NCAA Division I recruit, averaged 26.8 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.1 steals per game.

The first team consists of Iron Mountain’s Marcus Johnson, Westwood’s Zach Carlson, and Negaunee teammates Jakson Sager, Jason Waterman and Drew Lindberg.

Joining the Gladstone pair on the second team were Manistique’s Schyler Andersen, Ishpeming’s Jacob Kugler and Gwinn’s James Harnick.

Rane Castor

The all-defensive team consists of Gladstone’s Jarret St. John, Johnson, Carlson and Negaunee teammates Drew DuShane and Alex Munson.

Earning honorable mention were Gladstone’s Noah Ballard, Iron Mountain’s Tony Feira, Ishpeming’s Breck Bell, and Westwood teammates Taylor Dellangelo and Ty Alderton.
