Gladstone swimmers place in Houghton Splash
HOUGHTON — The Gladstone Braves made the trip to Houghton Saturday for the Houghton Splash swim meet.
Junior Lydia Tembreull paced the girls with a victory in the 100-yard individual medley and placed third in 50 breaststroke.
She was also part of the mixed 500 crescendo relay that placed second. Freshman Megan Fritz placed third in 50 freestyle and was also part of the crescendo relay. Senior Emily Marenger took third in 50 backstroke, and senior Izzy Houseman placed third in 100 free.
The boys team was led by senior Alex Williams, who placed third in 200 free and was part of the 500 crescendo relay. Camden Griggs took third in 50 back and was also part of the crescendo relay.
The relay team of Williams, Griggs, Wilson Zhao, and Rodney Van Brocklin took third in the 200 free relay.
“This meet was a little different in that the events were mostly 50- and 200-yard events. This was also a medal meet with medals for third place and above,” Braves’ coach Tom Desy said. “The swimmers did well even though their times were a little off.
“Practice has been limited over the past couple weeks with Christmas and New Year’s.”
