Escanaba takes third at GNC Tennis meet

ESCANABA — The Escanaba Eskymos placed third at the Great Northern Conference tennis meet with 17 points as Marquette and Kingsford tied for the top spot with 27 points.
Escanaba picked up one championship as sophomore Kyle Smith was victorious at No. 4 singles defeating Marquette’s Dominic Camilli 6-4, 7-5; and David Arcand of Kingsford 6-0, 6-1.
“Kyle had been heading toward a GNC championship all season,” Escanaba coach Alan Adams said. “He lost to the Marquette kid twice this season in close matches and he was able to break through and get the win here.”
Escanaba sophomore Chris Economopoulos earned a third place finish as he defeated Gladstone’s Chase Ketcham 8-7(1). Economopoulos also picked up a victory over Nathan Camps of West Iron County 7-5, 7-6(3).
Escanaba freshman Chase Korpi defeated Dominick Brunswick of West Iron County 8-4 and junior Brett Swanson picked up a win over Donte White of West Iron County 8-6.
Escanaba juniors Logan Stephens and Jacob Prey earned a pair of wins as they defeated Matthew Swenski and Emmett Strom from West Iron County 3-6, 6-4, 13-11; and defeated Tyler Soderman and Teagan Reynolds 8-3.
Escanaba’s Dominic Parlato and Taylor Asgaard won a third place match againstJoel McWethy and Carson Aldegarie 8-5.
Escanaba also won the third place match at No. 3 doubles as Ben Klenow and Logan Kamerschen defeated Aidyn Zimmerman and Cayden Holm of West Iron County 8-4 and at No. 4 doubles Willie Derkos andCamden White defeated Justin Straub and Kristoff Stahlmann of Gladstone 6-3, 6-2.
