Rapid River school millage approved in vote

RAPID RIVER — Residents in the Rapid River Public School District were asked Tuesday to approve an operating millage, which was a renewal of the existing millage that already included a Headlee override. Residents approved millage by 254 votes (70%) to 110 votes (30%), according to unofficial election results.

The millage will levy 19.9879 mills ($19.99 per $1,000 of taxable value) for a period of 10 years, 2023 to 2032 inclusive. The additional 1.9879 mils will only be levied to the extent necessary to restore the portion of the original 18 mils lost to the rollback caused by the Headlee Amendment.

In the first year levied, the millage will raise/would have raised approximately $957,147.

Starting at $3.50/week.
